About Placeways
Boulder, Colorado-based Placeways, LLC is made up of people who are passionate about their tools, their business, and their mission.
Our GIS software is used by companies, government agencies, academic institutions, non-profits, and individuals throughout North America and in 20 countries around the world. Our professional GIS consulting services focus on the application and customization of our own tools and include on-the-ground project work, strategic consultation, and training.
Placeways was created in 2005 by a group of former CommunityViz® employees with a deep commitment to both the values embodied in the software and a passion for creating better tools for better decisions. Our ideas for LayerLogic emerged from our own experiences doing GIS work and from watching the way our colleagues and partners work. We saw over and over again that GIS professionals were asking, or being asked, questions about their data that sounded easy but whose answers were hard to retrieve. From our CommunityViz experience, we were accustomed to the idea of dynamic GIS – the concept that GIS data can be analyzed in real time. What we wanted to create was a tool that would make analysis fast, easy, and accessible, yet powerful enough to answer the real-world questions we were coming across every day. What we created was LayerLogic: fast because it is neatly embedded into ArcGIS; easy because of its graphical, adaptive formulas; and powerful because we’ve tapped into all the analytical power intrinsically available in a GIS system.
