LayerLogic: Features

Smart Fields, graphical formulas, and more.

Here are some highlights of the major features of LayerLogic, which works as a tightly integrated extension to ArcGIS.

Smart Fields are layer attribute fields with formulas attached. The field values calculate, and recalculate if needed, based on the formulas that live behind them. You can turn almost any attribute field into a Smart Field by giving it a formula. Or make new Smart Fields with a few clicks. What is a field formula?

Global Calculations let you use the power of LayerLogic formulas to perform calculations that are not attached to a field. They’re perfect for project-wide totals and measurements. Plus they give you access to real-time geoprocessing.

Global Inputs are variable values with names. You can use them in formulas so it’s easy to make changes to input numbers, text, and other data. Change one Global Input and you may, if you want, drive changes in hundreds of other values in your geodatabase.

Formula Editor is the center of LayerLogic. It provides a graphical, drag-and-drop workspace surrounded by the functions, data, and tools you need to create all kinds of field formulas for ArcGIS. From quick-and-easy arithmetic to sophisticated spatial analysis, the Formula Editor is clear, effective, and fast.

Functions in LayerLogic can be used on their own or in combination. There are almost 100 available functions divided into the following categories:

Arithmetic
Constants
Date and Time
Field Values
Geometry
Logic
Math
Raster
Statistics
Text
Topology

In addition, you can call Geoprocessing tools and Custom Formulas created by you or anyone else. And conditional functions like Where conditions and If statements are always available if needed.

Import/Export functions allow you to send data back and forth to external applications such as spreadsheets and tables.

Toolbar provides easy access to common LayerLogic functions. In addition, LayerLogic commands nestle in neatly to other ArcGIS menus so they are there when you want them.
